INSIGHTS IN MOBILE TEACHING AT NORZAGARAY, BULACAN

This activity has been dear to me. This was the actual first attempt to see me
and my classmates work together as one; as a real team. Although it wasnt
a really smooth sail, I must say, it was a great leap with camaraderie and
professionalism. Nonetheless, I am proud of whatever was done.
During my stay, I didnt have much time to think over things at depth. Id
rather reminisce and have a rundown of whatever struck me.

Mobile teaching is totally different; the learners are different. They act
according to their culture unlike students under formal school. Further,
you dont see students in formal school spitting on the ground.
The demands are different. They do what they want. They come and go
without really considering the teacher. Unlike in formal schools, the
students stay in the room and stick to their schedule.

There wasnt really much. I wanted to teach something else. Or I wanted to

see something else. It wasnt that surprising, it was what I imagined. It would
be exciting to teach them something new aside from hygiene. It would be
nice to tell them stories that would enrich their outlook in life and see the
beauty of their position.
Even so, I had fun. I wanted more. The time was short and I really wanted to
do more. I wanted to learn about them to; their culture, their beliefs, their
rituals, and so much more. I wanted more intimate conversations. It was like
we only went there to give them supplies and thats what saddens me. It
seemed like they didnt go there to learn but to gather supplies. I thought
with that mentality, they wont ever help themselves but always rely on
others. Its quite disappointing. I overhead one local say: balik kayo ah!
while waving her plastic bag with supplies. Also, they were much more eager
at the time of distributing food. I understand their situation but it just shows
how the mentality of their class are today.
All in all, if I would be given the chance to teach again to the out of school
youth, Id love to. I have enjoyed the process that occurred to push through
this activity.
