Please keep this instruction manual oe for future reference Power Planer Instruction ‘ Manual Electrical Information This product comes complete with a pre-wired mains plug. In the event that this plug needs replacing the following information must be followed. WARNING This machine is double insulated and therefore does not require connection to earth. IF IN DOUBT CONSULT A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN. IMPORTANT The wires in this machine are coloured in the following way: Blue Neutral (N) Brown Live (L) Always secure wires in the plug terminals carefully. Secure the cable in the cord grip firmly. NOTE If your mains wire differs from the above, consult a qualified electrician. Always make sure the mains supply is of the correct voltage and you use the correct fuse protection. Regularly inspect all electrical connections and wiring condition for damage. Any faults detected should be immediately rectified before further use of the machine. Always have the wiring checked by a qualified electrician. ‘When in use, ensure all wiring and extensions are kept clear of any cutting tool, sharp objects and any other workshop hazards such as wet floors or chemicals. This appliance must be protected by a 5 amp fuse, if a 13 amp (BS1363) plug is used. a 5 amp fuse must be fitted. To prevent fire or shock hazard, do not expose this product to rain or moisture. There are no user serviceable parts inside. Always refer servicing to qualified service personnel. Never remove any part of the casing unless qualified to do so. GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS: 1. Personal Safety - Avoid wearing loose clothing, Jewellery or anything that could get caught in moving parts. Long hair should be tied back. Use of safety goggles is recommended (normal glasses are not sutficient for eye protection Face or dust masks should be used and ear protection is advised during periods of extended ‘operation. When working with MOF, always cut in well vintilated areas, use dust collecting attachments and always wear recommended respiratory protection masks. 2 Clean Work Area - Cluttered areas and benches invite injuries. This guard should be removed for maintenance purposes only. General Safety - Secure work with a clamp, do not over-reach and do not use when tired. ‘Check Before Use - Make sure switch is in the OFF position before plugging in the mains lead. Always check the planer is not damaged before turning on. If the guard or any part is damaged, it should be correctly repaired or replaced. Disconnect the planer when not in use, or when changing blades. Always unplug when leaving the planer unattended. Protect The Cable - Never carry the planer by its cable, or pull it to remove the plug from the socket. Protect cable from sharp objects, heat and oil. If damaged, have it replaced, ‘Maintain the planer - Keep clean and in good working, order for best and safest performance. Always follow instructions for removal and replacement of blades. Direction Of Feed - Aways feed work into the blade against the direction of rotation of the biade. Beware Children & Pets - Children and pets should be kept at a safe cistance from the work area. All tools should be kept out of reach of children and Stored in a safe place. To increase the depth of cut rotate the depth adjustment knob clockwise. 2. To decrease the cut tum it anti-clockwise, STARTING AND STOPPING 1. To start the machine depress the trig}ger safety button and then the stop/start trigger. Ensure that the cutting head is not already in contact with the work piece. 2. To stop the machine release tha trigger. USING THE PLANER FOR CHAMFERING 4, The front sole plate of the machine has a 90° groove down its centre (Fig. 1). y 2. This can be used against the edge of a work piece the create a 45° chamfer (Fig. 2). WARNING BEFORE CARRYING OUT ANY MAINTENANCE OR ADJUSTMENTS THE MACHINE MUST BE DISCONNECTED FROM THE POWER SUPPLY. INSTALLING AND USING THE PARALLEL GUIDE 1. The parallel guide can be used to support the planer against the side of a work piece (e.g. side of a door) 2. Slot into position at the front of the planer (Fig. 3). 3. Lock into place with the parallel guide securing knob (Fig. 4). MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS REMOVING THE BLADES 1. To remove the blades from the cutter head remove the three hex head screws with the wrench provided (Fig. 5). 2. Carefully lift out the blade taking care to avoid the sharp edges of the blades (Fig, 6). 3. Rotate the cutter head by hand and repeat the procedure for the Second blade. 4. Remove the blade fixture plates by removing the two securing screws (Fig. 7). MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONS SHARPENING THE BLADES 1. Insert the blades into the honing template (Fig. 8). 2. Using a suitable oil stone sharpen the blades in a figure of eight motion, 8. Take care when removing the sharpened blades from the template. REFITTING THE BLADES 1. Before refitting the blades to the cutting head the blade fixture plates need to be reset. 2 Use the guide template (Fig. 9), to ensure that the blades will be set correctly into the cutter head. 8. Refit the blades by hooking the blade fixture plates. into the groove on the cutter head. 4, Re-seoure in place with the three hex screws ensuring that the screws are tightened equally. REPLACING THE CARBON BRUSHES 1. The carbon brushes should be inspected at regular intervals. They need replacing when the carbon has fallen to 5mm in length and are available via the Helpline (see below). 2. Remove the dust extraction chute by removing the self tapping screw (Fig. 10). 3. Remove the carbon brush cap (Fig. 11), and withdraw the brush from its housing, 4. Replace the carbon brushes if necessary. 5. Ensure that the brush moves freély in the housing. 6.
