Have you heard about the new phone application which allows
you to play old console games? Someone in the marketing
department recommended it to me in the canteen and I
downloaded it. As a result, I have spent my entire afternoon
trying out tons of really fun games! My boss would be terribly
mad if he found out, but I know my bosss secret: In his oce,
my boss is constantly playing go-stop on his computer! I love
the app, but theres one problem with it: Its dicult to play
games on a smartphone which has small, touchscreen buttons.
To make playing the games easier, I am searching the web
to see if there is a Bluetooth game controller (or something
similar) which can be connected to my phone. You should try
the app too!

Why do you think some people want to play old games even
though there are many new games on the market?
I think some people (especially people in their thirties and
forties) play old games for their nostalgia value, and because old

games bring back happy memories from their childhood. In the

1990s, most kids didnt go to a hagwon after school. Many went

to video game arcades or went to friends houses to play console

video games. Because a lot of thirty or forty year olds now have
stressful jobs and important inancial responsibilities, playing

old games is a way for them to relieve stress and remind them of
a time when they had more freedom in their lives.

Whats happening with the Hanhwa baseball team these

days? Until recently, they were certainly one of the worst
teams in the league. In 2014, the BBC reported that Hanhwa
had lost over four-hundred games in just ve years. This
season, however, theyre on a big winning streak. Though
I dont usually watch baseball matches on television or on
my phone, the teams unusual winning streak makes me
interested in watching more games. Maybe I will even visit
Daejeon to see one of their home games. Go team Hanhwa!
I hope they win the league!

I think I prefer watching baseball games live in a stadium.

Watching baseball on TV is ine, but in a stadium, I can chat

with my friends, eat tasty food and sing my favorite teams

songs. Additionally, its a lot of fun to sit in your teams section

of the stadium and cheer with all of the other fans. The feeling of

togetherness you experience when in a stadium with hundreds

of other fans cannot be felt when watching a baseball game on
TV.

#003: Koreas Tragic Oxy Incident ( )

Several years ago in Korea, hundreds of people were injured

and dozens of people died after inhaling a toxic disinfectant
product imported by the British company Oxy. Tragically, most
of the victims were mothers and newborn babies as they were
the biggest users of home humidier products at the time.
The Korean people are understandably upset that deadly, toxic
chemicals were allowed to be sold in Korea despite their possible
dangers. Who is to blame? Most people agree that Oxy is almost
entirely to blame, but others point to a lack of government safety
regulations which could have prevented the product from being
imported. Although the victims and their families are now being
compensated by Oxy and others responsible for the manufacture
of the deadly product, lingering doubts remain about the Korean
governments general concern for the people and their ability to
successfully prevent such toxic products from being imported in
the future.

What else can be done to avoid incidents like this in the

future?
Shortly after the Korean Oxy incident, one Korean web-board

poster noted that, at the time of the accident, Japanese humidiiers

were already being sold with warning labels explaining the

dangers of using chemical disinfectant products in combination

with their humidiiers. After reading the warning message on his

Japanese humidiier, the Korean web-board poster avoided using

any chemical products in his humidiier and his family avoided

potential injury. That simple warning label from the electronics

company probably saved many lives. Perhaps Korean humidiier

makers should put warning messages on their machines regarding

the use of toxic chemicals, and perhaps consumers should be more

careful about what products they use and trust.
