Watching Lectures in BIOL1003/1103

In BIOL1003/1103, you are registered in the following components.
For lectures: Section 1003A, Section 1103A, Section 1003T or Section 1103T.
For tutorials: Section 1003ATU or Section 1103ATU
For labs: Section 1003 A01, A02, AO3..A20, AE
Section 1103 A01, A02, A03.A20, AE
The information here pertains only to the lectures and tutorials.
For the lectures and tutorials the 1003 and 1103 courses will be taught together. There is a live lecture
section (section A) as well as a recorded section (section T). If you are in section A, you would normally
attend the live lectures in Southam Hall Theatre B. If you are in section T, you would normally watch the
lectures on a computer screen, either live or recorded.
However, some students in section A decide instead to watch the lectures on their computer. And many
students in section T decide they would prefer to attend the live lectures. In the first two weeks of classes,
the theatre will be very full, but as people decide to view the recorded lectures instead, seats open up.
The live lecture section is obviously more interactive and students probably derive more benefit from
these sessions.
There are several ways to view lectures without actually being in the theatre:
1. There is a live stream from Theatre B which can be viewed on any computer (including your own
laptop). During the lecture and tutorial times, you can access the lectures by going to
https://vod.cuol.ca/stream and click on Southam Hall, Theatre B at the times of the live lecture and
tutorial, i.e: Lectures12:351:25pmonMon,WedandFriandtheTutorialat1:35pmFridays

2.Theselecturesandtutorialswillalsobefreelyavailableattwoothertimeperiodsintheweek
followingthelivelecture.Youcanaccessthelecturesathttps://vod.cuol.ca/stream/webchannel
duringthefollowingschedule.

servicecosts$50pertermandallowsyoucompleteflexibilityindeterminingwhenyouwatchthe
lecturesandtutorials.Youcanwatchalectureasmanytimesasyoulike,fastforward,rewindetc.You
canbingewatchoryoucanfindregulartimesthatareconvenientforyou.ManywilluseVODastheir
primarymodeofwatchinglectures,whileothers(whowatchthelectureslive)mayonlyuseittoreview
materialaroundexamtime.ThisserviceisavailabletostudentsinboththeAandTsectionsofBIOL1003
andBIOL1103.
