Homework #3
Differential Leveling
1) The following reading was recorded during leveling work of a pipe line path
Setup 1 : 0.85 , 1.25
Setup 2 : 1.35 , 2
Setup 3 : 2.2 , 2.35
Setup 4: 2.945 , 2.788
Setup 5: 2.665 , 2.55
The first point is a BM(105) with an elevation of +237 and last point is BM (116) with an
elevation of +236.
Find the elevation for all points. What is the closure error? If the distance between the
points is 100 m, do you accept the data?
2) The following reading was given to you:
1.15 1.35 0.99 1.65 1.35 1.45 1.55 2.05 1.85 1.65 1.75 2.18 1.802.00- 2.20
The level was moved after the fifth, seventh, ninth and eleventh reading.
Fulfill the leveling sheet for these readings assuming level of point 1 is 250 and distances
between the points are 50m. Draw X-section for the level data.
3) During a closed loop differential leveling for a gas pipe line , the following reading was
recorded:
0.98 1.25 1.45 0.95 1.40 1.25 1.00 - 1.30 1.55 1.60 1.85 2 1.77 0.69
0.95 1.467
The fourth, seventh and the tenth points are turning point (TP). The first point was on a
BM (317) with an elevation of +112. Compute the elevation of all points and the closure
error. . If the distance between points are 70m, do you accept the data for construction
and fourth precision works. Draw X-section for the pipeline elevation.
4) A differential leveling for a uniform sloped land has the following records:
1.1 1.4 1.87 2.31 0.65 0.98 1.40 0.55 0.65 1.6
The first point is located on a BM (456) with elevation of +100 and the last point on a
BM (457) with elevation of +97. The distance between points is 100 m .
Do you accept the reading of the field work.
Best Wishes..
