Innovation

Aviation industry, unlike other industries, has a rapid changing trend and requires high
responsiveness in order not to be left out. There is need for zero latency in response to the
changes of the environment. (Riwo-Abudho, et al, 2013.). However, innovation is more
found in term of aircraft, engine, management and other manufacturers instead of in airlines
themselves. ( PwC, 2014).
The aviation industry embraces innovation and constructs a solid and continuous
culture within organization from recruiting until encouraging employees to change, develop
and improve themselves from time to time. The innovation and creativity amongst members
in organization are determined by the culture of encouragement, motivation and change.
(Packard, 2011). Besides, the rewarding and recognizing system which includes symbolic
actions and performance-based shared options in organization plays a vital role in order to
achieve the best performance of organization like Singapore Airline who enforces innovation
in rooting culture. (Ridwo-Abudho, 2013).
Despite the high cost and limited source of fuel, the greatest challenge of aviation
industry, aviation industry has innovation in technology to develop sustainable biofuels which
is currently short in supply and expensive to replace jet fuel. Air Transport Action Group
(2011) stated that sustainable biofuels are more eco-friendly and easier to implement than for
other transport mode. (Christian II, 2014). SGBiofuels (SGB) has been developing
genetically altered versions of jatropha, creating a hybrid jathropha that produces a higher
energy yield and low economic impact. (Christian II, 2014). GEMINI, a 25,000 acre project
bio jet fuel undergoes in Brazil, is hoped to be successful in order to continuously provide
sustainable and cost-effective biofuels to the aviation industry in Brazil as well as other
countries. (Christian II, 2014).
