Foreword
Dear Students,
The application process will start from September 1, 2016 for GATE
2017 - the largest online PG entrance exam for engineering graduates in
the country. GATE is a tough exam to crack as the syllabus encompasses
three to four years of undergraduate studies. What has to be kept in mind
is that with proper dedication, preparation and perseverance, GATE exam
can be cracked.
Before you start your GATE preparation, keep these mantras in mind:
Make GATE your Goal. Nothing else will work. Until and unless you
believe in making it your goal, you cannot really achieve outstanding success.
It doesnt matter if no one else believes in you. You should have the belief
that you can. There is no reason why you cant take the chance and turn it
to your advantage.
GATE is the only exam where all students are equal and can score well
irrespective of academic background. There are no constraints like experience and such.
To help you get started on your GATE Preparation, we at Careers360 have
compiled all necessary and crucial information in this Ebook.
Hope You Crack GATE!

(fifth/sixth semester) mark sheet, as proof of eligibility criterion. Similarly this
applies to candidates of AMIE, AMICE and other similar programs.
3. Syllabus:
It is important to segregate the GATE Syllabus into topics to prepare. Little
drops of water make the mighty ocean the saying holds true in this case
too. The vast GATE Syllabus is doable and achievable if broken into topics.
Segregate them into Easy, Difficult and To Learn Anew. Study topic wise.
Make sure that most of the Syllabus is covered two months before the actual
GATE exam dates.
4. Timetable /Schedule:
It is important that a timetable or study schedule be prepared. You must
prepare one on the basis of what works for you. Plan and prepare a timetable that ensures proper study hours and topic wise coverage in a scheduled
time over the months. This timetable must include time for practice tests in
addition to the regular study hours. It is more important that you study and
the topics covered for the exam rather than worry about the adherence to
the timetable.
5. Ready Reckoner:
While studying, make it a practice to prepare a ready reckoner that contains
the important points of any topic, important formulae etc. These will come
handy during the last days of preparation when there will be no time to go
deep into the topics. It is then these notes come into use. Such notes are also
available on the internet.
7. Mock Test:
GATE is completely online. So it is important that you feel comfortable
with the computer based exam. This is where the GATE Mock Test comes
into the fore. Candidates can practise with the GATE Mock Test wherein
candidates can attempt the exam in a simulated mode. The Mock Test is
exactly similar to the actual test. The only difference is that the scores will
not be calculated or displayed.
9. Relaxation:
It is important to put a stop to frivolous activities during this period of GATE
Preparation. But it is also equally important to make sure that the mind is
relaxed to tackle the stress of preparation. Ensure that you relax every few
hours. Give a break to monotony but also ensure that it is kept to a necessary
minimum. Take a walk, meditate, listen to your favourite music etc are some
activities that could help you relax.
