At the

end of
world war one, many nationals who served in the British
army, return home. Among them Captain A.A Ciprinai .These
persons brought with them a certain passion for the reform of
the Crown Colony system of government which was not
representative of the masses. In 1925, the number of
members in the legislature rose from the nine to thirteen,
seven of whom were to be elected. This was the first time in
the history of Trinidad and Tobago that the people had to say
in electing their representative government .

The first political party in Trinidad and Tobago emerged in


1934 . this party was headed by Captain A.A Cipirani and was
called the Trinidad labour party {T.L.P}
