PURPOSE
The recommendations below are to help you decide, in conjunction with your advisor,
which mathematics course is most appropriate for you if you plan to take calculus. (You
should, however, be aware that many majors do not require calculus.) You should take Math
9 (Precalculus) only if you are not adequately prepared to take Math 11 (Calculus for
science & engineering) or Math 30 (Calculus for business) and plan to do so.

RECOMMENDATIONS
These are only advisory recommendations. However, the Department of Mathematics and
Computer Science urges you most STRONGLY to follow them. We don't want you to begin
your college career by failing or dropping a calculus course for which you are not prepared.
If you feel that your score seriously misrepresents your level of preparation, please consult
with a member of the Mathematics and Computer Science faculty.

RANGE

RECOMMENDATION

19 <= score <= 33

You are qualied to take Math 11 or Math 30.

16 <= score <= 18

You should plan on reviewing Precalculus on your own while

taking Math 11 or Math 30.

14 <= score <= 15

Math 9 is probably the most suitable course for you, unless there
are special reasons that might explain your low score (such as a
year away from math, ...).

0 <= score <= 13

Be kind to yourself and take Math 9 to prepare for Math 11 or

Math 30.
