my name is anti histamin.

I am a kind of substance that live in mmany organs of

your body. I am derived from decarboxylation of amino acid, histidine.
I live in yout cells, such as neuron, mast cell and also enterochromaffin like cell
(ECL cell). you can meet me especially in granules of mast cell. they are located
in endothelium, broncus and smooth muscle. I am also live in granule of ECL cell
of gastrointestinal tract.
likewise, I stay in neuron working as neurotransmitter. I live in these cells until
one day. you get an allergen, the substance causing allergy.fist, allergens attact
your body and stimulate B cell.
B cell interacts with plasma cell to produce and relase IgE.
then, IgE attach themselves to mast cell.
next time, when you get the same allergen into your body, IgE will stimulate
mast cell to release me.
and many other chemical mediators to nearby environment.
my friends and I bind to histamine receptors subtype 1 or H1 receptor. Those are
distributed on smooth muscle, endotelium and neuron.
H1 receptors act via G-Protein receptor of class Gq that upregulate calcium.
calcium is released from endoplasmic reticulum, bind to activated protein kinase
C. then many reactions, such as vasodilation, bronchoconstriction, rash, itching
and smooth muscle contraction occur.
woooo, how scary it is !!!
these are only reactions from H1 receptor.
lets see another reaction. from histamin receptor subtype 2 or H2 receptor.
Normally, when you consume food stimulates nerves in your gastrointestinal
tract, acetylcholine and gastrin are released to stimulate receptors on ECL cells.
then we are secreted from granule of ECL cells. and bind to H2 receptors on
parietal cell, those are coupled with G protein of class Gs. increased cAM
activates proton pumps to transfer hydrogen ion in exchange for potassium ion.
