Transforming Food Waste into Fuel

Recognizedaslargeenergyconsumers,wastewatertreatmentplants(WWTPs)alsohavethepotentialtobeefficient,
energyproducingfacilities.Anaerobicdigestion,whichiscommonlyusedtotreatwastewatersolids,naturallyproduces
methaneasitbreaksdownorganicmatter.Harnessingmethanetoproduceheat,electricpowerorbiofuel(alsoknownas
biomethane)andoffsetfacilitypowerneedsisbecominganimportantenergymanagementoption.
