Chillers or VRF ?

Efficiency Wise

What is EER ??

EER means : Energy Efficiency Ratio, ratio of the cooling capacity (in British thermal
units [Btu] per hour) to the power input (in watts). The higher the EER rating, the more
efficient the air conditioner
EER measures the efficiency of the unit at Full Load conditions

Higher EER

Less energy
consumption

Less
Electricity
cost

What is IEER ??

A newly developed measurement that evaluates the efficiency of a unitary air conditioning
or heat pump system on a seasonal basis is the IEER [integrated energy efficiency ratio]
IEER measures the efficiency of the unit at Part Load conditions, like operating the
system at 25%, 50%, 75% of its total capacity

Full Load Conditions

Part Load Conditions

Which one is more important? EER or IEER?

Both!
But in real life, most HVAC systems operates at part load conditions
For Example :
Office building with 20 offices, will have different load characteristics, peak load (Full
load) will happen for short time, when the ambient is highest and occupancy is highest.
ASHRAE specified the formula :
IEER = (0.02A) + (0.617B) + (0.238C) + (0.125D)
A = EER at 100 percent net capacity at AHRI standard condition (95F)
B = EER at 75 percent net capacity and reduced ambient
C = EER at 50 percent net capacity and reduced ambient
D = EER at 25 percent net capacity and reduced ambient
Which means that the system operates only 2% of time at full load (in Average) ..
So, in general, for most applications specially the Office buildings, Hotels, Residential
apartments etc , the Part load performance is more important

How Multi-V performs comparing to other systems or brands

Multi-V :
EER ~15
IEER ~25

How Multi-V performs comparing to other systems or brands

Carrier Screw Chiller :

EER ~ 10
IEER ~ 14

Conclusion

The Multi-V can offer excellent energy efficiency, at full load, but a superb efficiency at
part load conditions

Thank you ..
