Essential Question(s)
What should students know when lesson is completed?

What is Pythagorean Theorem and when does it apply?

Teacher Lesson Preparation

Students have already done lessons on effective note taking strategies with a focus on Cornell
notes as well as lesson on Costas levels of thinking to help develop questions on the left hand
side of the paper
Students have been introduced to Pythagorean Theorem and the converse
Activating Strategy (for example: Hook/Mini-Lesson/Warm-Up/Connection to Prior Learning)
Do Now: Create questions based on notes from previous lesson on Pythagorean Theorem

Instructional Sequence and Activities including use of technology

I.
Students create questions related to or similar to the example problems for hands up
pair up.
a. Students put a question on one side of the card and the answer on the other
side of the card.
b. Students stand up with their hand up find a student hi-five and ask their
question
c. After each student has asked answered the question correctly students switch
cards and put their hands back up until a new player is available to hi-five.
II.
After the game students will review notes on Pythagorean Theorem.
III.
Teacher will project a windows notes template with the following problem
a. RECREATION A pool table is 8 feet long and 4 feet wide. How far is it from one
corner pocket to the diagonally opposite corner pocket? Round to the nearest
tenth.
b. Students will walk through the steps with teacher modeling as a class
IV.
Each Student will pick a problem out of a hat to apply to their own windows notes
template

V.

After completion of activity students will glue windows notes into interactive
notebook and write a learning log summary about the activity.
