Annex 2

Field of application / processing

Zinc phosphating according to this works standard is designed as anti-corrosion measure for unpainted steel
parts which will not be coated at a later stage (for instance, painted). The components must therefore be treated
in appropriate installations according to the guidelines of the chemical component supplier. All process data
must be recorded.

Material characteristics
No particular specifications are laid down with regard to the composition. The sele ction of the product as well as
the process parameters must be such that a uniform and compact-grained coating with a basis weight of approx.
10g/m is produced. The phosphate coating must finally be sealed with an oil emulsion.

Film properties

3.1 Appearance
Good adhesive, grey to black coatings; free from faults.
After final treatment with the oil emulsion the coating must be dry to the touch and must not be sticky or oily.
The surface itself must have a matt appearance.
3.2 Coating thickness
The coating weight must not exceed 12g/m . A max. coating thickness of 6 m must be ensured for tight-fitting
parts.
