DISMANTLING INSTRUCTIONS
General
‘The vibrator can be dismantled without being removed from the
foundations. It is important, after completing maintenance work, to
ensure that the vibrator is free by rotating it by hand for a few revolutions.
When the vibrator has been dismantled, every part should be thoroughly
cleaned and examined for wear and any parts found to be faulty must be
replaced. In requesting information it is important that the symbol and
serial number of the vibrator is given.
To remove the Spring Yoke and Extemal Spring
(1) Insert a wood wedge (Z) Fig. 5 between the rocker arm (19) and
the vibrator casing.
(2) Adjust the spring yoke screws until it is possible to insert a
metal wedge § in thick between the casing and rear spring yoke (3).
(3) Remove the four spring yoke bolts and insert the long withdrawal
screws which are supplied with the tool kit. Adjust these screws
until the metal wedge is free. Remove the wedge and the complete
spring yoke assembly.
To remove the Rocker Arm and Adjusting Toggle Seat Carrier
Having removed the spring yoke assembly, proceed as follows:—
(1) Remove the drain plug (3) Fig. 4 and drain the oil.

FIG.5 DISMANTLING THE VIBRATOR(2) Release the wood wedge from under the rocker arm, so that the
adjusting toggle seat carrier (17) will move forward and the
short and long toggles (16 and 18) can be removed, Fig. 5.
(3) Release the retaining screws from the pivoting pins of the
adjusting toggle seat carrier (17) the cam toggle (15) and
the rocker arm (19). Remove the retaining plugs, withdraw
the pivoting pins and parts in the following order:-
i The cam toggle
ii The adjusting seat carrier assembly
iii The rocker arm
To remove the Crankshaft
(1) Dismantle the assemblies as in the two previous paragraphs.
(2) Remove the pulley and the two bearing end covers.
(3) Detach the roller (8) from the crankshaft (7).
Using a brass drift, tap the crankshaft from the drive end until it and
the bushing remote from the drive end are free.
In carrying out this operation, it should be remembered that the
crankshaft bushing bears on two diameters and therefore the crankshaft
must be held in a central position until the bushing is free.
(4) Remove the crankshaft and tap out the remaining bushing.
ASSEMBLY INSTRUCTIONS
The vibrator should be assembled in the following order:-
To replace the Crankshaft and Cam Toggle
(1) Insert the crankshaft bushing in the housing opposite to the
drive end. Insert the crankshaft (7).
2) Offer the other crankshaft bushing into the drive end housing,
2 2.
support the crankshaft and tap the bushing into its correct
place
NOTE:- In the majority of vibrators, the crankshaft
bushings require fitting.
(3) Rotate the crankshaft until the roller journal is in the top dead
centre (T.D.C,) position.
(4) | Position the two halves of the roller (8) on the journal and secure
in place with connecting bolts, nuts and locking nuts.
(5) Place a 1/16" gaskoid joint over the crankshaft end covers,
8 ji
position the covers and secure them in place with sctscrews.
(6) Lower the cam toggle (15) into the casing, insert the toggle
pivoting pin (14), the pin locking screw and the two pin retaining
plugs.
16(7)
Insert the two bushing adjusting screws in the end covers, and
adjust the screws until the roller (8) is centralized with the
cam toggle (15). This should give 0.005 in end clearance
each side between the flange of the crankshaft and the bushings.
The cam toggle must be fitted to the roller, if necessary the
bearing surface of the toggle being scraped to match the
surface of the roller.
To replace the Spring Toggle
a)
Tura the crankshaft until the roller is in a position 90 degrees
to T.D.C. and the cam toggle is in its lowest position at point
(¥) Fig. 5. Position the spring toggle (13) in the cam toggle,
insert the spring (12) and cap (11). Gompress the spring by
applying pressure to the cap, slide the complete assembly
into position as shown Fig. 5 and insert the adjusting screw (10).
This screw must be adjusted until the carn toggle will just
return the roller to its natural position. Care must be
taken when adjusting the screw as excess spring pressure
will cause unnecessary wear to the roller.
To replace Rocker Arm, Adjusting Seat Carrier and Toggles
a)
@
Locate the rocker arm (19), insert its pivoting pin (20),
retaining plugs, and the locking screw. The long toggle (18)
can now be lowered into the casing and one end engaged in the
bottom rocker arm.
Place the short toggle (16) in the bottom of the casing,
position it to allow hand clearance between the cam toggle
(15) and adjusting toggle seat carrier (17).
Insert the complete adjusting toggle seat carrier, position
and secure its pivoting pin and by putting the right hand through
the oil hole cover, lift the long toggle (18) to engage in the
adjustable bearing of the seat carrier.
Push the bottom of the seat carrier forward and use the right
hand to hold it in this position,
With the left hand lift the short toggle (16) and engage it in the
matching greore of Oye taggle sunt carrier. change honda aod
ith the Fight hand engage the abort iggie With the cam. toggla
a5)
The left hand should now be inserted in the casing and used to
hold the short toggle in place so that the right hand is then used
to push the top of the rocker arm back in the direction of the
arrow X in Fig. 5. While holding this position place a wooden
wedge in position Z to keep the complete assembly in its
correct place.
Usirg the two long screws, assemble the external spring (2)
Fig. 6 and spring yokes (1 and3). The nuts should be
screwed on until the spring is sufficiently compressed as to
allow the complete assembly to be dropped in position. It
should engage in the rocker arm end first and a metal wedge
(4) 3 in thick must be inserted between the vibrator casing and
spring yoke,Pig. 5.

(8) Remove the long serew nuts from the spring yoke (3) end.
extract the screws, insert the spring yoke bolts, nuts, and
washers, and remove the metal wedge.
(9) The spring yoke bolts must now be adjusted until the distance
between the two yokes is approximately 7.1/8 in on both the
right and left hand side of the spring.
(10) Finally remove the wood wedge from under the rocker arm,
replace the oil drain plug, refill with 25 gallons of the
recommended oil and replace all covers.
Stroke of the Vibrator.
he length of the vibrator stroke can be varied between 3/8 in ang
5/8 in to suit the material being treated. It may be adjusted as follows: -
(1) Remove the i
(2) Turn the handwhee! (5) Fig. 5 in a clockwise direction to
decrease the stroke or turn it in an anti-clockwise direction
to increase the stroke
