WHO PLAYS THE MAJOR ROLE IN DECIDING HOW TO UTILIZE THE SHARE AMOUNT
All the SHG+ members were consulting their family for suggestions regarding how
they will be utilizing the share out amount. And as most of the families in this
region are nuclear families that is families of a couple and their dependent children
only, almost the SHG+ members were consulting their husbands for suggestions.
246 members out of 250 were consulting their husbands whereas the rest 4
members were consulting their father-in-law for suggestions. Although the final
decision is not dependent on whom the members are consulting. It was seen that
only 30.275% members were finally concluding the decision themselves whereas
68.125% where dependent on their husbands for the final call of utilizing the share
out amount. And the rest 1.6% were going by the decisions made by their father in
laws.
Father in law; 2%
Themselves; 30%
Husband; 68%
Another aspect to find out the dependency of the decision for final utilization of
share out amount can be by looking at whose money is saved at SHG+, as if a
housewife is a member of SHG+ it is very obvious that either her husbands or her
father in laws money is being saved in SHG+ and in such a case there is a huge
possibility that either the Husband or the father in law makes the final decision.
According to the data collected it was seen that 62.8%(157 members) of the SHG+
members were working members. Mainly engaged in farming, farm labors, labors,
livestock and a few were having their own businesses.
Out of that 157 working members 37.57%( 59 members) where taking the final
decision themselves whereas 59.88%(94 members) were dependent on their
husbands for the final decision and the rest 2.54% (4 members) where dependent
on their father in law.
No Planning; 8%
Father in law; 3%
Themselves; 37%
husband; 52%
On the other hand out of the 93 non earning members only 21.51%(20 members)
were taking the final decision themselves whereas 74.2%(69members) were
dependent on their husbands and the rest 3.29% (4 members) were dependent on
their father in law for the final decision.
