Primary Purpose of Position


The Senior Industrial Relations Adviser is responsible for the provision of high quality industrial and employee relations advice and services to
Government, Chief Executives of Government Agencies and Instrumentalities and other client groups which result in improved industrial relations
and other human resource management policies and practices. The Senior Industrial Relations Adviser is responsible for conducting high level
negotiations dealing with important industrial relations matters, including Enterprise Bargaining negotiations and the provision of industrial advocacy
services before Industrial Relations and other Tribunals. The Senior Industrial Relations Adviser conducts and/or co-ordinates industrial relations
projects and contributes to policy development and implementation in relation to industrial and employee relations matters.
Outcomes

Equitable and pragmatic resolutions to disputes and major industrial issues are achieved by exercising sound judgement under broad direction,
based on relevant experience, discipline knowledge and competence.
Development and implementation of initiatives to improve industrial relations and human resource management practices in the Public Sector
and the provision of a high level of effective and accurate advice and services on these issues.
The effectiveness of Governments human resource management and industrial relations policies and strategies is optimised.

A broad knowledge of public sector organizations and operations
An understanding of current issues in public sector management,
particularly as they affect the South Australian Public Sector.

Requirements)
Communication:
A high level of oral and written communication skills.
A high level of interpersonal skills, particularly in relation to dealing
with senior executives within the public sector and officials of
industrial organisations.
Computer literacy in the suite of Microsoft Office applications.
Negotiation and conflict resolution:
Ability to think strategically.
Sound ability to deal with conflict situations in a rational and
constructive manner.
Sound analytical ability to identify and analyse problems and
formulate and implement appropriate courses of action.
Proven negotiating and advocacy skills.
Significant advocacy before tribunals
Self management:
Ability to perform under pressure, respond quickly to requests and
achieve effective results within given and at times tight time frames.
Ability to be flexible and adaptable in response to organisational and
operational change and develop creative solutions to problems.
Ability to coach and guide less experienced staff and contribute to
their on-going training and development.
IR experience:
Significant experience in industrial relations and human resource
management, including the negotiation of major matters.
IR knowledge:
Sound knowledge of industrial and employee relations theory,
principles, policies and practices.
Sound knowledge of the legislative framework within which industrial
relations operates, within South Australia.
Knowledge of, and strong commitment to, the principles of human
resource management and administration, including areas such as
equal opportunity and occupational health and safety.

May be required to co-ordinate and oversee the work of other staff.

DPC Employment Conditions

Employment conditions will be governed by the PSM Act, 1995 and the incumbent will be expected to work in a manner consistent with the DPC
Code of Conduct.
The incumbent must be prepared to be assigned to another position at this remuneration level or equivalent.

Selection and Appointment Procedures
The selection and appointment procedures used within DPC are guided by the Public Sector Management Act 1995. This outlines
a set of standards to ensure selection decisions are based on an assessment of the MERIT of applicants abilities, aptitudes, skills,
qualifications, knowledge, experience (including community experience) and personal qualities as listed in the essential and
desirable requirements of the position. An applicants potential for development may also be considered.
