Definition of Terms

Family- a very important social institution that performs two major functionsreproduction and socialization; and generally considered as the basic unit care in
Community Health Nursing.
Compound Family- a family where a mom has more than one spouse.
Blended Family-union of spouses brings a child from previous marriage.
Extended Family- a family that consists of three generations including married
siblings and their families and/or grandparents.
Cohabitating Family-described as a live-in arrangement between an unmarried
couple who are called common law spouses and their child or children from such an
arrangement.
Dyad Family-a family consisting of husband and wife as newly married couples and
empty nesters.
Nuclear Family- a family consist of marriage, parenthood or procreation.
Single ParentLiteracy Rate- percentage of persons aged 15 and above who can read and write.
