I

chose to be a Special Educa3on major for lots

of reasons but basically the number one reason
is because my brother was born with a rare
gene3c disorder called Smith-Lemli-Opitz
syndrome. Its rare, about 1 in 500 people have it
so I grew up with him being around me and
having a lot of struggles with disabili3es but I fell
in love with helping people like him. So I didnt
realize I actually wanted to be a SPED major un3l
I came to school and started working with a Tiger
Buddy named Louis who was 18 and had a lot of
intellectual disabili3es and I decided to switch
my major completely from Broadcas3ng
sophomore year. I want to have that huge
impact on kids and really really help my high
school kids transi3on from secondary to some
sort of post secondary school whether its
independent living but just helping them with
the rest of their lives.
