COOPERATIVE LEARNING LESSON PLAN


I.

Describe the Class: This lesson plan is for eighth grade level. There are 32 students in
the class. There is one LD student and 3 ELL students.

II.

Subject/Skill: Algebra

III.

Objective(s): Today students will review for unit 2 test in cooperative learning
groups. (PALS)

IV.

Procedures: Cooperative Learning - PALS


a. Learning objective will be written on the board. The objective will be announced
to the students in the beginning of class.
i. Hello everyone, today you will be working in pairs to review for your
unit 2 test, which will be tomorrow.
b. Students will be grouped into pairs by the instructor.
c. Each pair will be given 2 to 3 problems (depending on the complexity and
difficulty of the problems).
d. Students will be given time to work on the problems within pairs, comparing
answers, and teaching and helping each other along the way.
i. During this time the teacher will walk around the class proving help and
guidance to students, making sure everyone stays on track and
participates.
e. Once everyone has completed their sets of problems. Each group will come up to
the board, present their problems, and show to the class how the problems are
worked out.
i. At this time, students who are not presenting their problems will be
encouraged to take notes.
f. At, the end of the class, teacher will have a whole group review, with any
questions the students have.
g. Each pair will turn in their set of problems (correctly done) for 2 bonus points on
the test.

Materials: review sheet (provided by the teacher), pencil, calculator (if needed), extra
paper for notes

Grouping Structures: Students will be working in pairs.

VII.

Modifications: Students are provided calculators, if needed.

VIII.

Assessment: Students will be evaluated with a unit 2 test, which will be given the
following day after the review.
