Progression 2.1 Allegory of the Cave
The image I have received is a very good example of a scene from Allegory of the Cave. The
backs of three men, filthy, boney, and bruised are the subjects of the picture. Each man looks
identical, as each is on their knees, facing a wall being held by chains not far enough away to be
hurting them, just a minimum amount of slack. The rocky cave wall looks like a mountain,
jugged. The majority of light within the image is focused on the wall of the cave which the
prisoners are facing. On the wall is a shadow cast of something similar looking to a camel.
Maybe even 5 times the size of a live one. The camels hump is like a left diagonally slanted
square and the camels shadow looks to be wearing an army hat. The floor is flat and leveled, the
only other thing seen are the footprints of the prisoners whose knees are in the areas. The image
is similar to that of Aladdin when he is locked away. The idea that each mans life revolves
around the shadow cast on the rugged wall of the cave and they dont have a choice about it.
