URBAN SKETCHING
The workshop aims to shed light on the importance of compositional and perspective techniques in creating interesting
sketching of urban scenes. participants should have some
basic sketching and coloring knowledge. inspirational images
will be provided and basic sketching supplies. If participants
wish they can bring their own sketching pens and any
medium to color with such as a small portable watercolors or
marker pens.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

SAMIAH. M. KHASHOGGI born in 1958 in Abha, Southern of Saudi Arabia; she is the daughter of

the pioneering surgeon Dr Mohammad Khashoggi, she lives and works in Jeddah. Samiah received
most of her education abroad in Lebanon and the UK where she graduated as an Interior Designer
from Kingston University in 1983. She was one of the very few women with a bachelor degree to have
worked as an Interior Designer back in the 1980s. From 1986- 2005 she has worked as a lecturer in Art
and Design at various companies, schools, and colleges. She holds an MFA with distinction from
DeMontfort University. She is currently working at Dar Al Hekma College for Girls as an assistant professor
of interior design. She aspires for quality Saudi art, one that creates positive, constructive dialogues and
social change, an art that discourages artists from working in isolation. This has been the main objective
for establishing Saudiaat Women Artists Group, which resulted out of her MA research. She has curated four successful Saudiaat exhibitions: 1st- Identities Unveiled, 2nd- Expressions, 3rd- Dialogues, 4thDirections, all shows were held in Jeddah.
In addition she is the founder of Midrar Art Hub where she is keen to educate and support artists and
art enthusiast especially young talents.
