This document outlines the learning outcomes for a Year 10 science module on the creation vs. evolution debate. The key points are:
1) Students will clearly define creation and evolution and explain why the debate exists between those who believe the world was created by a supernatural force versus those who believe it evolved over time.
2) Students will compare creation and evolution under various headings and assess the place of science in each view.
3) Students will describe scientific evidence that is problematic for both the evolutionary theory and biblical creation account.

Module 1.The Creation vs Evolution Debate Student Learning Outcomes At the end of this modules work, students should be able to: (1) Clearly define what is meant by creation and evolution\ Creation: the action or process of bringing something into existence. 1.
Evolution: the process by which different kinds of living organism are believed to have developed from earlier forms during the history of the earth
(2) Explain why a creation vs evolution debate exists
Because Some people think that the world was created by a supernatural force ( god ) and others believe it was evolved over time (3) Tabulate a comparison of each under the headings: underlying assumptions, mechanisms, order of appearances, implications and logical consequences. (4) Assess the place of science in creation and evolution (5) Describe and discuss some scientific evidence which is a problem for evolutionary theory (6) Describe and discuss some scientific evidence which is a problem for creation Radioactive dating eg carbon dating gives dates in the millions of years Fossils appear in separate layers not all together (7) Describe and discuss some scientific evidence that might support a Biblical (Genesis) creation account Massive coal seams are evidence of a flood If creation took more than 24 hours the plants would die (8) Describe briefly what is believed in each of the 4 main views on the origin of life on earth; (a) the Literal Biblical account, (b) the Day/age theory, (c) Theistic evolution and (d) Evolutionary theory (9) Explain what is meant by the fossil record , define the term fossil and explain how fossils are thought to form including the conditions that are required for fossil formation (10) State some different types of fossils and explain how they form (11) Describe how the age of a fossil can be determined including relative dating using (12) Explain what the geological time scale represents and describe how it was established. Describe some examples of fossils that correlate with particular time periods.
