Story telling allows us to feel emotion and connect to one another through different
experiences and live through one another experiences. According to Pink (2006) Story exists where
high concept snd high touch intersect. Story is a high concept because it sharpens our understanding of
one thing by showing it in the context of something else. Stories appeal to listeners emotions and
influence their perspective and actions towards certain feelings. Pink (2006) says The ability to
encapsulate, contextualize, and emotionalize has become vastly more important in the Conceptual
Age. Story Telling is a very open idea, we hear stories in all different places in all different contexts.
Each one of us hears a story different than someone else, because w are able to connect with them
through our own story, our own experiences. The greatest thing about story telling is that it allows up to
express our emotions in a way that others can relate.
I love the idea of story telling, I believe students can learn from each others experiences and be
able to walk in each others shoes by just simply listening to one another express their feelings. It will
allow them to connect to one another by finding similar interests and express emotions through their
stories and find meaning behind their experiences by those connections with their peers. A way in
which I could be able to incorporate this idea of storytelling into my classroom could be through show
and tell. This could allow my students bring in personal items that relate to certain lesson or big idea
that we are focusing on. Each student would get the opportunity to present their item to the class and
tell their story behind the meaning of this object to them and maybe even create a connection their
peers with similar objects.
