English and the French, and was presumably in use up until the 17th century. All that remains now is a tower

9 The Jardins Santa Clotilde gardins, which were completed in 1919, are the result of a successful attempt to
unite a Renaissance element with the French horticultural knowledge of the constructor Nicolau Maria Rubi o
Tudur with the demands of the contractee, the Marquis de Roviralta. Located on a steep coast between Lloret
de Mar and Blanes are Catalan Noucentisme style, extensive gardens. What is captivating about the gardens is
their geometric shapes and their breathtaking location, directly above the steep slope with a view out onto the
open sea and the Cala Boadella beach below.
At the edge of the gardens, in a meadow directly on the slope, there are several lovely little deckchairs: perfect
for a short, relaxing break with a seaview. Those who are in search of exotic plants would be better served
visiting the botanic gardens in Blanes, Mar i Murtra or Pinya de Rosa, which are, however, inaccessible with
public transport.

beginning of the Spanish Civil War). Right next to it is the Art Nouveau style Capella del Santissim
Sagrament chapel.

18 Jornades de la cuina de l'Art
At this culinary event in October "the Art-Kitchen" fish and seafood take centre stage. The term Art, in this
sense, has nothing to do with painting but denotes a traditional fishing technique, tirada a l'art, which was used
on the Costa Brava up until the 1960s, mainly on Cala Canyelles beach. Here the fisherman would throw out
their nets just a few metres from the beach. This meant that they would mainly catch lots of smaller fish. One
famous Art-dish is Arrs de l'Art, which is rice with various small fish, squid or cuttlefish, onions, garlic, tomatoes
and wine. This dish used to be very popular amongst fishermen who would prepare and eat this rice with their
daily catch down on the beach. During this month a number of restaurants and hotels base their menus on the
motto "Art-Kitchen".
