COUNTRY INFORMATION
Customs formalities : a passport valid for 6 months beyond stay in Rio, with at least one blank page
available for Brazilian visa stamp. EU citizens do not require a visa while many other nationalities require
one (please check, according to your situation).

NB : on entering Brazil, all tourists must fill out a carto de entrada/saida (entry/exit card); immigration
officials will keep half, you keep the other. When you leave Brazil, the second half will be taken by
immigration officials. Dont lose your card, as it could cause hassles and needless delays when you leave.

Jet lag : - 3 h UTC/GMT

Health precautions!: no specific vaccination is required, just be sure that your routine vaccines are up-todate. Check with your local health centre for further instructions. The yellow-fever vaccine is recommended
for all travellers to Brazil, except those visiting only Rio de Janeiro. Transmitted by mosquitoes, Zika rarely
causes illness, however pregnant women are advised not to travel to Brazil (or other countries where virus
transmission is ongoing) !to avoid potential birth defects.

NB : an international certificate of vaccination against yellow fever is compulsory for travellers who, within
three months prior to their arrival in Brazil, have visited or been in transit through any yellow feverinfected
country in Africa or the Americas.

Currency : Brazilian Real (R$). One real is made up of 100 centavos. 1" = 4,10 BRL
You can either change before or during your trip (at the airport or at any shop with sign showing
Cambio). ATMs widely available. Credit cards accepted in major hotels, restaurants and shops.

Electrical system : standard voltage is 127/220 Volts, 60 Hz.

CHECK LIST BAGGAGE


As you will be traveling in May the normal temperature would be between 20C to 25C, less humidity and
cooler temperatures than summer. Swimming is possible all-year round in Rio as the sea temperature is
comfortably high, averaging in May at 24C.

In order to avoid slowing down security procedures and to prevent the risk of having your products
confiscated prior to boarding, it is important to read this information.

Regulations for cabin baggage


Gels, alcohol, liquids, creams and lotions more than 100 ml and sharp articles, etc. are not permitted in the
cabin baggage.

Carriage of Liquids, Aerosols and Gels


! You are required to present liquids and gels separately when passing through the security check
! You must carry a re-sealable transparent plastic bag
! Only 1 bag allowed per guest and should not exceed 20 x 20 cm (8 x 8 inches) or 1 litre in volume
! Liquids, gels, pastes, lotions and aerosols are not permitted in containers bigger than 100 ml

Exceptions
You may bring liquid medications (insulin, syrup etc.) in your cabin baggage as long as you present a
certificate or prescription in your name to the security screeners. There are no restrictions on solid
medications (tables and capsules).
