What topic have you and your CT discussed and will be addressing for the connected
lesson?

Since I am in a Kindergarten classroom, the math concepts arent as advanced as the upper grade
levels. Most of the students have never been a school setting before, so they need to learn these
concepts to build their knowledge of math and trying to figure out the answer to a problem. My
CT and I have discussed about doing a lesson introducing the numbers 11-20. For example, for
the number 12 students will learn that there is 10 and 2 more to equal the number 12. I will use
linking cubes to help students show 10 and however many number more.

What standards will your lesson address in connection to this topic?

MAFS.K.NBT.1.1- Students will compose and decompose numbers and show there work
multiple ways (i.e. tally marks, ten frames, and linking cubes.) Students will draw: 10 and 1
more.

What misconceptions do students have about your topic?

Some students will count by 10 and others will think that, for example, 12 is 1 and 2 and students
will then saw that 1 and 2 is 3. The students will count by ones and or add numbers by one.
Students dont see that there is an invisible zero behind the one, to make 10.

What mathematical practice will you be focusing your connected lessons on?
Specifically, what student practices and teaching practices will be included in your lesson?

SMP 4- Mathematically proficient students can apply the mathematics they know to solve
problems arising in everyday life, society, and the workplace. In early grades, this might
be as simple as writing an addition equation to describe a situation.

Students must find the reason on how they got that answer. I will include a purse, higher
order questioning, independent practice, whole group, exit tickets and ask students what
they have learned for feedback.
