Dear Hanover County Public Schools,
It is with great enthusiasm and interest that I am submitting an application
for the mid-year openings in the Hanover County elementary school system.
Dr. Amy Robinson, principal of Mechanicsville Elementary School, informed
me of the opening positions. I was a student in Hanover County Public
Schools from Kindergarten to 12th grade. I am currently a student at the
University of Virginia, where I will simultaneously earn my Bachelor of Arts in
Psychology and my Masters of Teaching in Elementary Education in
December 2016. I will graduate from this accredited teacher preparation
program with licensure for K 6.
Hanover County Public Schools are of particular interest to me because of its
commitment to meeting the diverse needs of all learners, its value of parent
and community involvement and its focus on engaging, relevant curriculum
that will prepare students for a successful future. As indicated on my resume,
I am completing my student teaching in Kindergarten at Hollymead
Elementary in Albemarle County Public Schools (Charlottesville, VA). I believe
it is important to make students feel accepted and valued in their school
community through social and emotional learning alongside their content
learning. I also believe it is important to meet the needs of a wide range of
learners through differentiated instruction. Through coursework with Dr.
Carol Tomlinson and fieldwork in my various placements, I have strengthened
my ability to modify lessons to provide all students with access points to
meaningful and appropriately challenging material. Additionally, in my
student teaching, I have used the Responsive Classroom approach to create
a warm classroom community that empowers students to develop their own
responsible decision-making and self regulation skills.
I am eager for the opportunity to pursue my passion for education in
Hanover County Public Schools. I believe that my strong academic
background at the University of Virginia, wide range of experience in the
classroom and familiarity with the Hanover community make me a great fit
for Hanover County Public Schools. I have included my resume, letters of
