Gerund and to infinitive:

Some verbs are followed by ing, the feeling is experienced, fulfilled.

I enjoy shopping in Hongkong


We avoid talking to Tuti, she is a blabber-mouth.

While some verbs are followed by to infinitive, the feeling is fulfilled, in the future.

I promise to take you all to Ancol. (just a promise, we are not going to Ancol yet).
They decided to get married in June (just a decision, not getting married yet).
I hope to learn Korean language. (just a hope, not learning the language yet).

Some verbs are followed by ing and to infinitive with no difference in meaning, e.g.:

I like shopping
and
The baby began talking and

I like to shop.
The baby began to talk.

But some verbs followed by ing and to infinitive with difference in meaning
Remember
-

I remember kissing my girl friend for the first time at the zoo.
I remember to kiss my girl friend when I see her.

Forget
-

I forget locking the door of my car.


I forgot to lock the door of my car.

Regret
I regret not listening to your advice
I regret to tell that everybody fails
