- "Configuration makes the man": This is an idea imposed by the Circles. It says
that the shape of Flatlanders defines who they are, instead of their characteri
stics like wondering, thinking, working, etc. It is like a rule to avoid any reb
ellions, and it suggests that one should accept the conditions of the social cla
ss they are born into, and not question anything.
- 2.71828: A constant irrational number in mathematics, also known as Euler numb
er.
- Helios: It means "sun".
- Pantocyclus: It means "all cycles".
- King of Pointland: Keeps saying "me". Cannot reply Arthur, because he does not
have the notion of duality. For everything that Arthur says, he thinks that he
has said them himself.
