USA in the Olympics

The 2016 U.S. Olympic Team is comprised of 558 athletes (264 men, 294 women). The
roster may be adjusted due to injury, illness or exceptional circumstances up to the technical
meetings for each sport.
The country is competing in 30 sports: archery, badminton, basketball, boxing,
canoe/kayak, cycling, diving, equestrian, fencing, field hockey, golf,
gymnastics, judo,
modern pentathlon, rowing, rugby, sailing, shooting, soccer, swimming, synchro swimming,
table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, track and field, triathlon
, volleyball, water polo,
weightlifting and wrestling.

- Michael Fred Phelps II (June 30th, 1985) is an American former competitive swimmer
and the most decorated Olympian of all time. Broke 37 world records and won the most gold
medals (8) in a single Olympic edition (at Beijing, China, in August 2008). He qualified for the
2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, his fifth Olympics, winning 5 golds and one
silver.
- Simone Arianne Biles (March 14th, 1997) is a professional gymnast of the United
States, specializing in artistic gymnastics, winning 14 medals in world championships, 10 of
them gold. It is the most decorated gymnast in the history of his country in the world. Biles
made history in the Olympics 2016, climbing the podium five times, with four gold medals and
a bronze.
- Justin Gatlin (February 10th, 1982) is an American sprinter who is an Olympic gold
medalist in the 100-meter dash. In 2006 he was caught in the doping test for excessive
testosterone and punished in 8 years away from the slopes. Later the sentence was reduced to 4
years. At the 2016 Rio Olympics, he received a silver medal in the 100 metres dash, running the
race in 9.89 seconds.
