Summary of Learning

This Alberta Health Service inservice provided me a learning

opportunity to gain more
knowledge on early recognition of
clostridium difficile infection in a
hospital setting. It also allowed me
to have a visual of the stool
consistency that would indicate
cdiff. Additionally, I was provided
with a sample of proper lab
requisition documentation and
proper specimen collection and
frequency of collections. This in
service also covered proper
donning and doffing procedures
and isolation precautions when
dealing with clients that have a
cdiff infection. This in service will
affect my future practice as I will be
more aware of the signs and
symptoms surrounding cdiff and be
more diligent in proper lab
requisition completion and
specimen collection. It was also a
good refresher to review donning
and doffing procedures and how
cdiff isolation precautions differ
from other infections such as
MRSA, and scabies.
This Alberta Health Service inservice provided a learning
opportunity that covered
mobilization of a post-surgical
client. I learned the three knee and
hip precautions that post op
patients must adhere to for life. I
also learned alternative approaches
to the hip surgeries and doctor

on their surgical approach to the
joint replacement. I had hands on
experience with metal joint
implants which gave me a physical
representation of the actual
implants in the clients I would be
working with. This education
session also provided me
interdisciplinary team building skills
as we worked with OT/PT team to
mobilize post op patients. This will
affect my future practice as I will
focus on the proper body
mechanics of mobilizing clients
from day zero through too
discharge. It also improved on
team building as it made the OT/PT
team accessible and open to client
case review.

my future practice as it has taught
me to apply critical thinking to
patients mental health

key comments or signs that clients
may be demonstrating that could
indicate a specific mental illness
that I had been previously been
unware of. This course provided me
with an entry level understanding

into mental illness, assessment

techniques, and common
pharmaceutical interventions for
treating mental illnesses.
