The research that I did in order to gain the knowledge and ability to

complete my senior project was centered around three things. First being learning the
entirety of the sculpting process, secondly knowledge of wire armatures along with the
clays that require wire armatures, and thirdly understanding the usage of the element of
line in sculpture. Each of these subjects corresponded to the different ways to begin and
ultimately finish the creation of a maquette. The first step allows me to remember how to
plan before beginning along with following steps such as draw, build armature, lay down
body, and finally pose and add detail. The second subject would allow me to build the
skeleton for each maquette allowing for some basic stability. Following this the third
subject which is the understanding of a line allows for more extensive detailing and
additional designs that can potentially be used. I believe that this research is required in
order to actually complete my project due to the importance that each of the steps
researched stressed completely. Due to this it makes me less likely to create something
that would fall apart after being posed which would cause unnecessary stress to the
project. I personally feel that the research that I did is incredibly important towards being
able to produce a project within the time frame given to me. I also feel that my research
also tended to go beyond the required focus of my actual research which is working its
way into my work right alongside the focus research subjects. Overall I believe that the
research done for the writing portion of the senior project is lending and showing its
usefulness towards the project portion of the senior project allowing for higher quality
work, and a much higher quality project.
