1. Suggest which logging method best suits the ideas of sustainability and
explain your answers?
Selective logging is the best method because it makes sure that the younger
trees are not disturb when moving the other trees that they selected. It also
has no fully clear out section that could affect the animals habit
2. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of each type of logging method?
Clear cutting- Benefit (cost efficient)
Con (entire communities usually displaced or destroyed;
cause soil erosion)
Selective logging- Benefit (more biodiverse, uneven age growth- less overall
environmental damage)
Con (machinery disturbs forest interior- expensive- more
dangerous for loggers)
Strip cutting- Benefit (leaves a lot of trees do the ecosystem can still work for
the e animals)
Con (less money to be gain the strip and scare or frighten the
animals
3. Explain the importance of old growth forest?
Provide an environment where it wasnt affect by man. There are many
different types of species in the forest. it filters the air for us.

Surface fire- usually burn leaf litter and undergrowth
May provide food in the form of vegetation that sprout after
fire
Crown fires- extremely hot burns whole trees
Kill wildlife
Increase soil erosion
