Transformer or Switchboard Fire

Procedure
This procedure describes how to respond to transformer or switch board fire.

Sound the site emergency alarm

Contact with the duty plant engineer in shift to isolate the


transformer. If necessary contact with our electrical engineers (
if they are not available at that moment on the spot) and PDB

Do not fight the fire with water unless the transformer is


isolated on the primary and secondary sides.



Note: The fire brigade may elect to fight fire with water, but
they have specialised procedures for safely dealing with
fires on live electrical equipment.

If the transformer has not tripped, shut down the plant for
which the power is supplied by the transformer and
switchboard.

Once the fire brigade is on site, advise them whether any


electrical isolation has been completed.
If required by emergency services, or if deemed necessary, trip
the power of the whole plant/factory.
