Topic outline:

English: We will be focussing on Little Red Riding Hood and


Goldilocks and the 3 Bears. We will be re-telling these
stories and then changing them to create our own, new
version of the story. Finally, we will be creating our own
stories.
Mathematics: We will be consolidating our addition and
subtraction skills. We will be focussing on shape, space and
measure. We will continue to use the resources to build
numbers.
Science: This half term we will be using the books
Goldilocks and the 3 Bears and Little Red Riding Hood to
find out more about materials and forces.
Trip This half term we will be going on a trip to a local
cinema to see a traditional tale cartoon. Although this trip
will be subsidised by school a contribution for
transportation will be required. A letter will be sent out
closer to the time with more details.

Suggested books:
Any traditional tales, such as; The Enormous Turnip, The Elves and
the Shoemaker, Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Goldilocks and
the Three Bears, Billy Goats Gruff and so on.

Suggested visits:
Garden Centres what can you find out about growing
plants?

Cartwright Hall they are holding various exhibitions during


November about different childrens books.

National Media Museum where you can create your own


stories.

Explore your local area what different materials can you


see and how have they been used?

Topic challenges:
1. We challenge you to create a junk model
of one of the houses made by the Three
Little Pigs.
2. Can you make the perfect porridge, what
do you put in it?

Check the school library and Bolling Hall library for more.

3. Can you write a list of the different


materials you can find in your local area?

Family Learning
Letter

Phonics and Reading:


Your child will be sent a reading book, when reading you can
practise looking for letter sounds, reading tricky words and
answering questions about the book.
Each week your child will have an adult led guided reading session
and will have the chance to read with an adult. They will also have
daily phonics lessons to develop their phonics skills.
