Name of the experiment conducted:

TEST ON CLOSE COILED HELICAL SPRING

Purpose of conducting this experiment:

To conduct tension test on the given close coiled helical spring and to
determine the following :
1.Stiffness of the material
2.Rigidity modulus of the material

Apparatus used:
1.Spring testing machine
2.Vernier caliper

Procedure followed:
1.For the given spring, the number of coils is noted
2.Using the vernier caliper, the external diameter and the thickness of the
spring wire is measured.
3.The machine is switched on and the spring is loaded. The deflections
are noted at every 10kg interval
4.The deflection is taken till the load reaches 60kg
5.By applying the formulae the modulus of rigidity and the stiffness of the
spring are calculated

Tabulation or calculations:
No. of coils in the spring,n= 23
