Material Requirement

Planning(MRP)

What is that?? :P
Material requirements planning (MRP) is a production
planning, scheduling, and inventory control system used
to manage manufacturing processes. Most MRP systems are softwarebased, while it is possible to conduct MRP by hand as well.
Material Requirements Planning is a time phased priority-planning technique that
calculates material requirements and schedules supply to meet demand across all
products and parts in one or more plants.

Pictorial representation tells u everything, dont worry:

MRP systems use four pieces of information to determine what

material should be ordered and when :
The master production schedule, which describes when each
product is scheduled to be manufactured
Bill of materials, which lists exactly the parts or materials required
to make each product
Production cycle times and material needs at each stage of the
production cycle time and supplier lead times.

##The bill of materials(BOM) is a listing of all the

1. raw materials
2. component parts
3. subassemblies and assemblies required to produce one unit of a
specific finished product
Each different product made by a given manufacturer will have its
own separate bill of materials. The bill of materials is arranged in a
hierarchy, so that managers can see what materials are needed to
complete each level of production. MRP uses the bill of materials to
determine the quantity of each component that is needed to produce
a certain number of finished products. From this quantity, the system
subtracts the quantity of that item already in inventory to determine
order requirements.

PROBLEMOooo:
61. The product structure of an assembly P is shown in the figure.
Estimated demand for end product P is as follows
Week

Demand 1000 1000 1000 1000 1200 1200
ignore lead times for assembly and sub-assembly. Production capacity (per week) for
component R is the bottleneck operation. Starting with zero inventory, the smallest capacity
that will ensure a feasible production plan up to week 6 is
(A) 1000
(B) 1200
(C) 2200
(D) 2400
#### IN solution try to get the logic of YELLOW COLOR

Solution: Meaning of this problem is very easyjust feel it..

1. One unit of S and One unit of R can make one unit of Q then one
unit of Q+R make P.
2. Means R production rate or P
equal=(1000+1000+1000+1000+1200+1200)/6=1066.67*2~~2200
