Dear Professor Bell:
Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself to you. As a Textile Merchandising and Design
Major and a Public Relations minor at the University of Rhode Island, I am particularly interested
in pursuing a career within the realm of this intriguing industry. I wish to pursue the event
management sector of Public Relations. I feel as though this facet of Public Relations is
extremely useful when pairing with Textile Merchandising and Design. My major goal for that
particular combination is to one day work the event management for the annual Met Gala in
New York.
My research of this career revealed that you need to be extremely organized when it comes to
planning in Public Relations, but more specifically event management. I am confident that to due
my organized planning skills and problem solving skills I will be able to have a career within
Public Relations. This past summer I had the opportunity to complete a internship with Ann
Taylor Loft, which was such an eye opening experience. I was able to get first hand experience
within a facet of Public Relations. I was able to plan events for the store throughout the duration
of the internship, as well as coordinate all of the outreach for them. I am pursuing a career within
Public Relations because I feel as though it is combining all of my skill sets. I am able to work
within the fashion industry but at the same time work event management.
I am looking forward to my future career in Public Relations. For now I aim to contribute to this
learning environment by giving my full attention and time to educating myself more on how to be
successful within the industry.
Sincerely,
Jessica Sciacca
