ABSTRACT

This research studies the transitive and intransitive verbs in Arabic and Malay
languages through the method of contrastive analysis. It seeks to describe and analyze
the verbs by finding out the similarities and differences in various dimensions, and
identifying difficulties derived from the differences in both languages. Furthermore,
this research hopefully can help teachers teaching Arabic as a second language by
using this method. The researcher views that the selection of suitable and
approachable teaching methods is very important in the field of education, especially
for teachers of Arabic. Thus, the research on transitive and intransitive verbs should
be enhanced in the field of Arabic teaching, and it should also be given due attention
if learning the language is to be effective.
