[PAUSE FOR CHEER]
[C] Good afternoon. And
what an afternoon it is
because here we are in
the famous Blue Room at
the Roosevelt Hotel for
Stormin of the Sazerac
[LEAD APPLAUSE]
[C]: My name is Charles
Divins. You may recognize
me from WDSUs morning

show, and I am so happy


to be here.
I was thrilled when the
Roosevelt invited me
back to host todays
Stormin alongside
cocktail historian
Elizabeth Pearce.
[E]: Hi Ladies! Its so
great seeing everyone
transform this room back
to the 1940s. You all look
fabulous.
[C]: I have to tell you
Ive seen a lot of
productions Ive met a
lot of glamorous ladies

and Ive seen them make


a party out of just about
anything.
But Ive never seen
anything quite like
Stormin of the Sazerac
and we havent even
stormed yet.
[PAUSE FOR LAUGHTER]
[E]: Let me tell you a little
more about why were
here today. Historically,
women were not allowed
into bars except on Mardi
Gras Day. But today were
here to celebrate when
women were welcome

with open arms and freeflowing cocktails to the


Sazerac Bar.
Those women knew
exactly what they
wanted, and boy did they
get their chance to enjoy
it. Those ladies sparked a
tradition we can all raise
our glasses to today!
[raise glass and cheers
with crowd.]

we can raise a glass to

Spirit of the Sazerac this
year. This new award
seeks to recognize a
woman in our community
today who shares the
same courage, dedication
and an undeniable impact
on the community as
those women in the
1940s.
[E] We are honored to
recognize our Reigning
Spirit, who we will gladly
follow in todays second
line storm of the Sazerac
Kira Orange-Jones.

[C] Kira has worked


relentlessly through her
career to expand
educational opportunities
for children in Louisiana.
She began her career as a
teacher for Teach For
America and led the
Greater New Orleans
Louisiana Delta Region
for the last 9 years.
[E] And if thats not
impressive enough, she
was just named Senior
Vice President and
Regional Field Executive.
She will get to manage
and support Teach for

America executives
across the South and
Midwest. Though, of
course, she will still call
New Orleans home.
[C] So, lets all raise our
glasses to our Reigning
Spirit of the Sazerac
Kira Orange-Jones!
[C]: As I look around the
room I see fashion that
takes me back to the
1940s and 50s but so
much has changed since
then!
