Three Senior Drillers

Commit to Colleges

Three of the seniors on the Driller Wrestling squad have already

elected to continue their education and compete at the college
level.

Navonte Demison will join the talent-loaded Arizona State University upon
graduating. The Sun Devils are ranked 21st nationally in preseason polls with
some anticipating them to climb swiftly upwards as the season begins. Already
among the most decorated wrestlers in Bakersfield High Schools illustrious
history, Demison will provide a noticeable bump in talent to a young and
competitive team.
JJ Figueroa has decided to remain in California and help rebuild the Fresno
State Bulldogs wrestling team. After being dropped in 2006 the wrestling
program is finally being reinstated for the 2017-2018 season. For a team focused
on drawing local support and talent, nationally ranked Figueroa will be a
perfect edition to the Bulldog roster.
Two-time State Medalist Sam Loera will journey East to Colorado after
graduating to join the Adams State Grizzlies wrestling team. The Grizzlies are
coached by former CSU Bakersfield alum Jason Ramstetter. In addition to
earning All-American status at Bakersfield, Ramstetter was friends and
teammates with Driller head coach Andy Varner. Loera should complement the
Grizzlies line-up nicely.

15th Annual Spaghetti Dinner

Two Drillers Ranked Nationally

Navonte Demison and JJ Figueroa enter the season with national
rankings from multiple publications.
Flowrestling has both wrestlers ranked within the top 100 senior
wrestlers in the country, regardless of weight class. Demison comes in
as the overall 48th best wrestler in the country, while Figueroa comes in
as the 76th best.
The Open Mat also awarded each wrestler a Top Ten national ranking.
Demison is ranked #5 nationally while Figueroa is ranked #10 in their
respective weight classes.
