In the face of violent riot over an issue at hand when a leader is asked for hi view on the

situation most will likely respond in a similar matter. Their first observation will typically speak
to the need of restoring peace and order, and the second will be addressing concerns of those
rioters. This is exactly how President Bush responded during the riots on Los Angeles in the
early 2000s saying of " . . .two very different issues at hand, the first of them being . . .the
urgent need to restore order.( Campbell, Shannon et al.) This is still what we see with our
leaders today as well. So if the issues being rioted for immediately become an afterthought to
restoring order, how then can they consider it to be successful? Other articles make reference to
the injustice of the situation, yet link the two issues by also emphasizing the need to show respect
for the law. ( Campbell, Shannon et al.) By rioting the only thing accomplished is to remove
the issue at hand from the forefront of most peoples mind and place there the issues of the riot
itself. By continuing to do this rioters and groups like Black Lives Matter serve only the purpose
of making it harder to solve the problems that they see in society, this in and of itself is generally
illogical and scholarly journals point this out as a major issue in the failure of movements such as
Black Lives Matter. Finally, the articles provide several examples of attempts to highlight the
illogical nature of rioting as a response to any sort of social oppression or mistreatment.
(Campbell, Shannon et al.) Continuing like this will not do anything to benefit the goal of the
group and will only in turn harm the movement. This is not to say that the group itself is bad but
it stands to prove that they need to change their actions for the better to be effective.
