Renault Laguna Window Regulator

Fitting Instructions
NB These instructions are a guide on how to remove and re-fit an electric window mechanism and are not intended to be
complete. It was written some time after the job was done and some improvisation will be needed.

1. Removing the door panel

Pop off the door handle trim screw
cover with a small flathead screw
driver, then remove the retaining
screw behind with a torx bit
Tools required :
T30 Torx Bit
Small flathead screwdriver

Remove the triangular plastic trim located just off the

picture by prying gently with a screwdriver to first
loosen, then use your hands to work it out.

Locate the lower door panel screws

as circled in the picture.
Tool required :
T20 Torx bit (star screw)
Gently ease in and then pry the panel
with a sizeable screw driver, starting
at the outer corner then working
around, as indicated by the arrows.
The panel will be tough to pull off as
it is held by i) Retaining clips and ii)
heavy duty double sided seals.

Once the panel is released, lift upwards and pull away from the door just enough to get down the
back. At this point unclip the cable connector to the back of the door handle. You should have
enough play to move the panel to one side (by rotating the panel onto its side).

2. Removing the window mechanism

Firstly, its important to ascertain if the
mechanism is jammed. If this is the case,
then do not use the switch to force the
window down. This will damage the
motor pulley further!
a) If the mechanism is jammed the two
cables leading to the pulley will need
snipping (cable cutters, vice grips,
etc). The cut points are indicated by
the red arrows; the second picture
shows the reverse of the mechanism.
[The glass is now free to drop so
caution is advised!]

or

If the mech is not jammed then wind

the window down (using the switch).
b) Drop the glass so that the blue clip is
roughly at the point of the yyyeeellllllo

c) Disconnect the plug to the motor,
circled in orange
d) there are two plastic retainers to the
back of the blue runners, each with a
little lip on the side nearest to the
centre of the door.
Give these a wiggle and pull towards
the centre of the door, then the glass
can be worked off the runners. There
are sticky pads between the glass and
the blue runners, so bear this in mind
when working off the glass
e) slide the glass carefully back into the
closed position and support using a
wedge or similar

Unbolt the 5 nuts circled in green.

The mechanism is ready to be freed off. This can be difficult and sometimes manhandling is the way
to do it, but basically :
a) release the lower bolts from their mountings.
b) Work out the top bolts by wiggling and twisting the two metal runners inwards, effectively
folding the mechanism on itself.
Take care not to catch the bottom of the glass when freeing the top bolts as they are in close
proximity.
c) Remove the mechanism from the door.
Dont snip any cables !! if the regulator appears to be caught, its more than likely the retaining clip
has not been released (its positioned on the inside of the door) this is shown by the red circle.
Check the door inner for remains of the mechanism such as cable tensioners, retaining clips and the
like see the Parts document for more info on these.
Its not very technical but the best way to secure the window is with a length of wood, or zip ties (up
and over the inner door lip, through the holes in the bottom of the glass and tie) or both

3. Refitting
Generally, refitting is the reversal of removal followed by resetting the automatic memory (described
in section 3), however ensure you read the following :
IMPORTANT ! : If you plan to test the mechanism freely (without the glass), ensure that the blue slide
clips are more or less halfway up the runners. The mechanism will move about 3inches each press
prior to the switch memory being reset. If these clips jam on the top (particularly as the glass acts as
the stop) or bottom, the mechanism WILL break and I accept no liability on for any damage caused
here.

4. Resetting the window memory

Following re-installation and re-fitting of all cables please note that the window will only inch up.
This is normal!
You must follow the steps below to re-set the memory for window motor;
a) Gradually inch up the drivers window to the fully closed position
-take care not to press the button too many times as this will ultimately snap the cable and/or
clip
b) Fully close the passenger front window
c) Lift both the driver and the passenger window buttons simultaneously then hold for approx
4 seconds
d) This should re-set the mechanisms memory and normal operation will resume
