Lemonade by Jeremy Passion

She's my sunshine in the rain
My Tylenol when I'm in pain yeah
Let me tell you what she means to me
Like a tall glass of lemonade
When it's burning hot on summer days
She's exactly what I need
She's soothing like the ocean rushing on the sand
She takes care of me baby
She helps me be a better man
She's so beautiful, sometimes I stop to close my eyes
She's exactly what I need
She's my smile when I'm feeling blue
She's my good night sleep when my day is through yeah
Let me tell you what she means to me
(She's kinda like this)
Kinda like the feeling after your first kiss
Except that everyday she makes me feel like this
She's exactly what I need
Oh yeah
She's soothing like the ocean rushing on the sand
She takes care of me baby
She helps me be a better man
She's so beautiful, sometimes I stop to close my eyes
She's exactly what I need
She's soothing like the ocean rushing on the sand
She takes care of me baby
She helps me be a better man
She's so beautiful, sometimes I stop to close my eyes
She's exactly what I need
She's exactly what I need
3. Highlight 5 examples of figurative language

4. In the box below, explain why each of

above.

those five examples is figurative language.

Use complete sentences.
The first line that states, Shes my sunshine in the rain, is an example of
figurative language because the girl the speaker is talking about cannot really be
sunshine. Instead, the speaker is saying the girl makes him happy and uses the word
sunshine to signify her being bright and happy like the term, She is like a ray of
sunshine.
Another quote states, My Tylenol when Im in pain yeah. This quote is also
figurative language for the girl the speaker is talking about is a person and not
medicine. The speaker is merely saying that the girl is what makes him/her feel better
when he is in pain.
The first line in the second verse is also an example of figurative language.
This line says, Shes soothing like the ocean rushing over the sand. The reason why
this is an example of figurative language is because of its comparison of the girl and
the ocean.
The fourth example quotes, Shes my smile when Im feeling blue. This
example is figurative language for the girl cannot literally be the speakers smile.
Instead, what the text really means is that the girl is always there to cheer the speaker
up when he is feeling sad.
Lastly, the next quote states, Shes my good night sleep when my day is
through yeah. This is figurative language because the girl cannot be the speakers
good night sleep. Instead, what the speaker is trying to say to the audience is that he
looks forward to being with her.

5. Underline diction in the song that helps you

understand the tone above.

6. Italicize diction in the song above that

helps you understand the mood.

7. In the box to the right, write a short

paragraph describing the tone of the author
and its effect on the readers mood by quoting
(and citing) examples.

In the text, the tone of the author is loving, for

the author is speaking of a girl he/she is fond
of. The text shows the authors love for the
girl by stating things such as, Shes beautiful
and Shes exactly what I need. The tone
then gives the audience a mood that is warm
and light hearted. With the text saying things
such as, She helps me be a better man and
Kinda like the feeling after your first kiss.
Except that everyday she makes me feel like
this, expresses the author as being heartfelt
and buoyant in the text which gives the
audience these two certain moods.
