Emily and | have an interesting friendship as she has become my favorite barista at my local Starbucks. As a person who worked my way through college, | have always held working college students in high esteem. As | began to frequent Starbucks on a daily basis to get my quad shot over ice, Emily and | struck up a friendship during my morning routine. | immediately noticed Emily's genuine spirit and encouraging rapport that shined through morning after morning. Our conversations evolved intorher schooling and career. Emily was interested in my job as a school psychologist in Upland and former teaching career. We discussed the various options she would have with her teaching credential and | invited her to job shadow with me if she became interested in the field of school psychology. What impresses me most about Emily, however, is her work ethic and ability to take advantage of opportunities that will provide her with skills and growth as a person. As we rarely have an opportunity to discuss life at length, she provided me with a list of her achievements. | was stunned as | began reading about her second job as a Resident Assistant at the University of LaVerne, Sigma Kappa sisterhood Chairman in her sorority, making the Dean's list for four semesters, graduating a semester early with department honors and cum lade. She did all of this, as well as her classes and fieldwork experience, while holding these positions. Emily is an exceptional person and | feel privileged to know her as she is entering into this pivotal life transition. | hope you will give Emily this opportunity to work with your district.
