The Twilight Saga: Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer

The According to #1 New York Times bestseller, the #1 USA Today bestseller, and

the #1 Wall Street Journal the number one bestseller currently isis Eclipse. by

Stephanie Meyers. It pPiles on the suspense and romance, says USA today. Meyer

knows what her fans want: thrills, chills, and a lot of romance and she delivers on all

accounts , announces the School Library Journal. Fans will burn the midnight oil to

finish, proclaims VOYA (stared review.) How these praises came to be, I have know no

idea, because I found very little enjoyment in this book. So much of this book was unun--

realistic and not even relatable. forThe storyline begins in Seattle, as the city is is being

ravaged by a string of mysterious killings and a malicious vampire continues her quest

for revenge. Bella, the protagonist, once again finds herself surrounded by danger. In the

middle of it all, she is forced to choose between her love for Edward, a vampire, or her

friendship with Jacob, a werewolf. She knowsing that her decision will will threaten to

ignite the age old war between vampires and werewolvesf. As much as I wanted to prove

this book good, I think all those vampire fans out there should leave this book in the its

coffin. This book had more bad than good. Its The abundance of overdone characters, and
Turner, 2

lack of description from the author, out weigh the goodness creativity of the storys

messagestoryline.

First of allAs mentioned, the characters were a little far-fetched, mainly the

protagonist Bella, but all the characters were implausible all the same. What they do, how

they react to certain situations, and some of there their decisions prove how improbable

these characters would be in real life. If vampires where real, how many teenagers do you

think would fall in love with someone who wanted to drink their blood? In the story

Eclipse this is just what happenedBella falls in love with a vampire. She is very

irrational in most of her decisions. For one, during a fight between Edward and his sworn

enemy Victoria, Bella found a sharp stone and she,

pressed the sharp tip to the crease at [her] elbow. [She] already had a
long scar there from [her] last birthday. That night, [her] flowing blood
had been enough to catch every vampires attention, to freeze them all in
place for an instant. [She] prayed it would work that way again. [She]
steeled [herself] and sucked in one deep breath (Meyer, 550).

Though it did end up working Bella took a huge risk by cutting herselfin doing so.

Victoria was there for Bella; why would she risk her life like that for no reason? She

could have thought it through a little more and seen saw how careless it really washer

actions were. Bella, again and again through out the novel is too reckless in her decision

too be a relatable and probable real life person. Yes, there maybe people out there whod

take the risks but how many would fall in love with human leaches? I believe Bella is too

reckless with her life to be a realistic person today. If you enjoy actual, plausible

characterization in stories stay away from Eclipse.

Another aspect that adds to my overall dislike of this novel is the lack of vivid

descriptions. In fact, if it wasnt for the fact that I had had not seen the trailers for the

movies New Moon and Twilight it it would have been very hard to have mental

images of thevisualize the story because of the aAuthors lack of description. There isnt

much description in the story. There is definitely something missing in this book and

Meyers falls short of the mark in creating quality work.I think the story needs more but

unfortunately there is almost none. Meyers has talent and the parts that are explained in

detail are done exceptionally well. The parts that do are exceptionally well done Perhaps

a cause of this oversight is the pace of the story itself. Bbut because, this is supposed to

be someones life, things happen too fast for there to be adequate description. Regardless,

I think the lack of description it has minimum a definable affect on the storys rating over

all.

The only good thing I found about this story was the over all message of it. When

I finished the bBook I had to ask myself could it be possible to love someone so much

that it didnt matter to me if they were a monster. Bella loves Edward despite the fact

that he is a vampire. The attraction between the two of them allowed Edward to ignore

his thirst for her and allowed her to get over her fear of living in a house of vampires.

Love allows her to hang on despite being , and being in the middle of a vampire war war,

and a werewolf war all at the same time. It was because of their odd attraction to each

other that I kept me reading despite all the bad aspects of the story.

Im sorry, [Edward] said apologizing yet againfor what? I had no idea

so sorry I didnt want you to see that. See me like that. I know I must
have terrified you.

I had to think about that for another minute, about the hesitant way he
approached me, his hands in the air. Like I was going to run if he moved
too fast.
Seriously? I finally asked Youwhat? Thought youd scared me off I
snorted.
He put his hand under my chin and tilted my head to read my face.
Bella I just he hesitated and then forced the words out I just
beheaded and dismembered a sentient creature not twenty yards from you.
That doesnt bother you?
He frowned at me . (Meyers, 558).

As can be seen in this qQuote Bella loves Edward so much it doesnt matter that he

just beheaded and dismembered a sentient creature.(Myers, 558). She loves him for

who he is, not what he is which is a noble plot and if it werent for all of the other

negativity that you have to wade through to get to that underlying point, I would

recommend this book highly. . This is the one and only reason I would even consider

asking you to read this book. But there is more bad than there is good so I can

recommend this book to you without having you waste your time reading this book.

However, as it stands, this book simply does not have the necessary criteria for a

good piece of literature. At best, it is a fad that like so many other disappointing books

will only be popular for a moment. This book was too unbelievable for me. The

characters and description iswas very deficient. Even The the storys message isnt

enough to revive this book from the deadits impeding doom. The message will not out

weigh the terrible characters the lack of description and every thing else in this laughable,

ridiculous book. In fact, it is almost laughable and itsThe character unrealism just made

makes it even harder to connect with the eccentric plot of the story. To make matters

worst the lack of description didnt help anything. So I would have to advise all vampire
Turner, 5

fans not to waste their times reading this awful book and instead read a true vampire book

classic like Dracula by Brian Stoker.
