critical path : the longest duration

A (duration)
Early start Late start
----------------------Forward pass = highest value on a join
Backward pass = lowest value on a join
ES(Current) + Duration(current) = ES (Successor)
LS(Current) - Duration(Predecessor) = LS (Predecessor)
--------------------------

Float = late start early start

In critical path, the float is zero
Total duration is = 13 + 2 = 15 days

Critical path = the minimum time required to complete the project.

In MS Project, the critical tasks are highlighted like this

In MS Project, Recurring tasks, constraints and logs

Weekly meeting 1 hour, for 4 weeks
Task -> Recurring task Duration - 1 h, weekly,
Summary tasks duration automatically calculated.
Workbreadown structure, duration, link them
Start to start = those activities can start at the same time 21 SS
Constraints It cannot happen lets say till Jan 2
Go to task info - > Advanced Constraints -> Start not earlier than Jan 2
Lag something is not going to happen number of days.
Clebration task can not going happen until u unpack the box after u move to
new place
Task-> processor-> put lag as 10 after the unpack the boxes task (27FS+10days)

How to do baseline: Project 2010 onwards

1. Get all the WBS items
2. Link them with dependencies
3. Task mode -> auto schedule

Baseline is approved version of your plan.

Table -> view-> more -> Baseline table and check.
Once customer approved
Project ->set baseline
Only one baseline -> the recently approved one -> the latest.
U can baseline entire project or selected tasks.
After approved change request, we update the baseline to new version.
Table -> Baseline table.
Entry table is copied to Baseline table.
After baselining -> start date and end dates.
After approved changes
1) Add a new set of activites which might change the dependencies
Is it changing the critical path?
Table -> entry to Tracking.
Actual start, actual finish , %complete.
Lets say update task 1 -> 100% completed as 3 days. (original plan 2 day
lets say)
How do I know the revised start and end date?
Go back to entry table .
Entry table will be updated automatically this 1 day more and other tasks
are adjusted.
Lets say we enter new task. In the entry table
Create an intrim plan -> copy baseline1 (start, finish) to start1 and finish1
Then insert new activity, auto schedule
Set the predecessor, successor.
When u enter the new tasks, the impact to other tasks you can create a
filter.
2) Remove some tasks
- No need to delete the task.
- No traceablity if you remove.
- Task name Delted-task name. change duration to zero
- If you put duration to zero, then it will change to milestone.
- Change the shape and color.
