Abstract
Keywords: DRRM Learning Modules, IEC Materials, Mainstreaming DRRM Concepts
This study looked into the effectiveness of the proposed DRRM modules and IEC materials to
mainstream DRRM concepts in Grade 8 Science in Moreno Integrated School along prevention,
preparedness and mitigation, response and rehabilitation. It is anchored on Constructivist Disaster Risk
Reduction Teaching and on the Thematic Areas of DRRM as mandated by RA 10121.
The study employed the pre-experimental design where only a single group was considered and
no control group was included in the study. The group used as respondents were Grade 8 Science
students. To interpret the results of the tests, mean and percentage were used. This study used three
instruments. (1) pre-test; (2) post-test; and (3) the DRRM Learning Modules and IEC materials. Findings
of the study revealed that on the prevention and mitigation items it has an increase of 57.43 interpreted as
moderately effective. Preparedness got an increase of 48.98 while response 50.77 increase and
rehabilitation got 33.08 interpreted as Moderately Effective. The total increase of post mean scores
were 47.57 interpreted as Moderately Effective. This implies that the proposed DRRM modules and
IEC materials provided a particular increase in the performance level of the Grade 8 students along the
four thematic areas of DRRM. The findings lead to the conclusion that the proposed DRRM learning
modules and IEC materials were moderately effective and can increase the performanceof the Grade 8
students along prevention and mitigation, preparedness, response and rehabilitation. It is recommended
that the school should maintain effective and efficient programs and projects on disaster risk reduction in
school communities focusing on the four thematic areas to support the quest for quality education and to
envision a culture of safe and disaster risk resilient member of school communities who are empowered,
responsive and accountable citizens in an atmosphere of collaboration and synergy.
