Language Issue
1. Benefits: Acceptance, Exposure to other cultures
Hold fairs with food, music, clothes etc. (Unity Fest).
Study Abroad programs, guest speakers etc.
2. None on campus. Others are discriminated against in other areas
3. People who are bilingual not as well educated, are immigrants, or do not speak
English as well. Realities, they are just as educated if not more, able to learn
languages easier. Dispel myths by showing examples are people with success who
has accents as well. Show the amount of jobs that require people to be able to
speak more than one language.

Make people aware of the effects of discrimination
People with accents with benefit because they wont be discriminated against,
but they also stand to loose their uniqueness
They know they are discriminating but they do not want to know or accept the
reality
Society and media for encouraging stereotypes of people with accents
Linguistics, professors, students, and people who are discriminated against.
Willing to be very active, they write books, teach classes and hold
presentations to get information out
Were playing on emotions, how being discriminated against makes people
feel

Define the issue

Discrimination creates a divide in cultures and society, more attention needs to


be drawn to it
We believe that no one should be discriminated against based on the sound of
their voice or the way they speak
We all agree that accents should not be treated any different than any other
type of speech
Weve taken classes and be educated about the difference in language and
what creates the differences in speech and vocalization
